Add another to the AVG pile. I put it on my own pc's, every pc I build, and every pc I service. I've uninstalled Norton and McAffe from many a PC in the last year and put AVG on, boom, problems go away.

Yeah, I did too. Sucky how ZA didn't even bother doing a workable version for W7... :FU: ZA!

Well, Choda, if you're behind a router you can probably get by without ZA until they release a Win7 compatible version.

I simply don't understand the necessity of ZA. Just use the router's firewall like Slade suggested.

Woah, woah, woah, wait a tic...Choda is already behind a hardware firewall?

ZA is freaking pointless then. If anything, look into the settings on your router for some of the better ways to protect yourself (turn off respond to ping, setup your rules for certain ports, disable and and all remote administration and UPnP options).

I use AVG on my PC's and Avast on the wifes...not really impressed with Avast. I use a hardware firewall for my PC and that's it cause I haven't been too successful at finding a good free software firewall that is 64bit compatible...I thought the point of having a software firewall working with a hardware one wasn't to stop badies from getting in but to stop shit from getting out.

That's what your antivirus is for. The only way you're going to have malicious content going out of your PC without an attack coming from the outside is if you have a virus or a serious piece of spyware on your PC. It's not just going to magically start transmitting data into the wild like a Blackberry on speed, something has to be on the PC to begin with, telling it to transmit whatever data it's looking for, whether it's just nonsense or pings in the case of a DDoS bot, emails if it's part of a spam botnet, etc.

Something malicious HAS to be on the PC, telling it to do that. And that's what antivirus is for.

Yeah, I have a hardware firewall (I have the linksys router that apparently everybody has...). I guess it is overkill... so you're saying I shouldn't even bother with windows firewall then? I mean, I know XP's was shite... I need to look more into it...

Everything looks better on W7... :yay:

You don't need the Windows firewall or any software-based firewall at all. Your hardware firewall will do just fine.

If you want Choda, lemme know the model number of your router, I can look up the manual online and tell you what settings I'd recommend to turn on/off.

Make sure you note the version number as well so you can get the correct firmware update.
