[CAT] Scratching Post

Well, his mother took him to the E.R. for the third time. His temp started going back up again, despite the tylenol, to 103, even though it was almost normal 2 hours before. At this point - lingering illness that seems to be going away but then keeps coming back - it looks like there could be a bacterial infection on top of it. I'm scared shitless... they analyzed his blood saturday to check for dehydration, but I'm not sure they checked it for a possible infection at this point, although in this case you'd think that they had but...

I spent last night feeling feverish and puking, too. Turns out it was Canadian beer, not pig flu.

Hooray for British Columbia bong tokes. I feel better now.

Yeah, been here since last Thursday. jinksT and I went out for drinks with a friend of hers last night. I didn't drink a ton, but I don't think the smoked bison carpaccio went down all that well. It sure came up in a hurry. It always hurts more when it's a pretty expensive meal you just puked up.

Nice, smoked bison carpaccio sounds damn fine. Was actually looking at a couple of positions in BC. That would be f'ing awesome if I could land the transfer.

I don't know why I haven't gotten my shit together enough to move here yet. This place is heaven. I need to be up here for good.

He actually has - I think - 3 different kinds of pneumonia, and they also found some streps in his blood today, but this one is not all that bad, apparently it's not surprising and what he's getting should take care of it. Still, we were scared shitless for a little while, but now he's doing OK. The hospital we took him to first fucked up big time: missed an infection in his lungs last Thursday, sent him home saying he was fine... when another doctor picked up his initial X-ray this Monday, she was going to hospitalize him just for that. Then she saw the new one, where his right lung was half-infected with that crap, and things got ugly...

It's not even pig flu anymore, they call it "novel H1N1", I'm not even sure that the vaccine they have right now is effective at all against it...

Weird thing: I've been to the hospital 3 times already, and all 3 times, at the exact same spot, exiting 695 to get on 26, the GPS froze. Every - single - time! Coïncidence? I think NOT!

Ummmm.... WHAT?!?! That sounds like two year old gibberish.

But apparently the teenager has a kid.

So about a week ago my wife's Volvo starts running hot - it culminates with her abandoning the vehicle at my workplace as all the coolant boiled out of the overflow tank. This is of course two weeks after being rear-ended by a Chevy Suburban, which wedged the rear hatch shut. So that car is sitting in my garage waiting for the new water pump to arrive tomorrow (cause of the overheating).

Then, last night, while returning from a night out to eat and watch a movie with my wife, we come cruising around a sharp corner in my development and right smack in fucking front of me is a large object on the roadway. I try to avoid it, but as going right would put the car into a low shoulder and a stand of trees, I veer left but still manage to clip whatever it is. We hit something pretty damn hard, the car bounces a bit so obviously it wasn't a large fastfood bag like I prayed it was but rather one of the many decorative boulders all over the place here. I glide i to a small lot overlooking the lake to assess the damage. Oil pan leaking like a fucking sieve.

A woman in a pickup pulls up alongside and asks if we hit something; turns out she had seen some kids screwing around in the road earlier and had pursued them up a side street - thought they might be the little fucks who have been heavily vandalizing the neighborhood lately. Turns out they had placed several small boulders in the road thinking people would be forced to stop and move them and it would all be a big HA HA on the grownups. They didn't take into consideration IT WAS FUCKING DARK on a POORLY LIT ROAD and placed as they were on the downside of a slight hill on a 90º turn THEY WOULD BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IN TIME. The security force had already arrested one turd for removing barricades around the roads that were washed out last month in some severe flooding we had and causing some old lady to drive off into a culvert.

My $500 deductible is higher than what replacing the pan would cost, so I have to eat this myself, which is so awesome when you consider part of my homeowner fees go to pay for security to protect my home from shit hats so unless we can find exactly who is responsible I get to pay twice for shit that isn't my fault.

So here I am with no transportation and no drugs to keep me from flying into a murderous rage.

And I don't even drink.

I am loving it more than McDonald's right now.
