It just drives me nuts to see poor fundamentals. I need a couple of afternoons with those coaches, I'll have em set right by the weekend.

The 11-12 year old boys are a much different story. They only had one kid that didn't get at least one homer. They average about four homers a game (I've seen as many as ten in one game), and they put up an average of about 12 runs a game. They won the district championship game with a final of 14-4 at the end of the 4th inning. Now they're going to State!

Now THAT kid has good weight transfer through the ball. He even clears his left hip like you're supposed to. He needs to give Squirrel Boy some lessons in the batting cage.

Well, Squirrel Boy's mom rejected the poster because he was showing bad form in that image. I had to change it to make them happy.

He's gotta keep his front foot closed. Also his hips aren't squared up until after contact...he's missing a good junk of power. Fuck I miss working for Doyle...youngest level 2 instructor they had. Loved that job. ...sigh....

OK...so I reckon this is as good a place as any. I've got the photography bug. bad. I had saved up about $1500 for a new computer but I've lost the itch. figure this quad 9300 can last another year. I've got another $500 or so coming from Mom for xmas via a gift certificate to a camera shop...figure it'll get me a lens. so...2k...maybe a bit more...I need to put something together before I hit Japan in April. April in Japan is cherry blossom time...if you've ever seen it in Washington than times it by a million. We're going to hit Kyoto for a couple days and this will be my second time during cherry blossom and it's nothing short of stellar. I'd like to have something put together well before so I'm somewhat competent. Wide angles inside and out for sure and lots of family shots outside and in low light temples. Action shots too I'd imagine.

What do I need...everything. Including lots of help. Total noob. I'm guessing Kenny and Span are good resources so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've also seen Greenie post some great pics of models and it wouldn't surprise me if other members know how to wield a camera too.

Stores I'm looking to buy from:

http://www.downtowncamera.com/
http://www.vistek.ca/

If recommendations are overwhelmingly in favor of going the rebel route with more spent on lens I'll do it but truth be told I'd like to get a better body...so my thoughts are something like a CANON DSLR 50D W/18-200 IS KIT and then grabbing a half decent prime 50mm...probably have enough scratch to grab another lens before April.

Also I may be a fuckwit but I'm not a fag...no Nikon shit.

Not at home right now so will post more later but the first thing to do is decide between the Rebel and x0D series. There is no difference in image quality between the two. Instead the difference is in size, ergo's and speed. No need for speed unless you're shooting sport or BIF (birds in flight) but you may want it just in case. Ergo's are undoubtably better on the x0D's thanks to the rear dial and top LCD. Size.... I prefer the chunkiness of the bigger models. Some prefer the petite Rebels.

Best bet is to go and play with one of each in a store. See if they'll let you take some pics to get a feel for them. Maybe even pick up a Nikon *spit* to see what you think. After you've decided what line you're after it'll be easier shopping for a body.... Then we'll go on to lenses...

Go with a Rebel and spend the extra loot on quality lenses. You can always upgrade the body later.

Thing is you could always go for a used or refurbed 40D or even 30D if you want to keep the price down. Personally I wouldn't have a rebel but it is a personal thing. Best to try em out to what suits you. Some folks are put off by the size of the x0D's.
