32 bit Winders SUCKS BALLS!! Even 7 will only utilize 2.5 gigs of RAM. Nothing I do anymore can function properly on only 2.5 gigs of RAM. WTF!! Ghey! Bring on the 64bit OS. :rage: :weird: :ass:  :freak:

WMP has been shit since version 8.

The two that I use on my HTPC are:

Media Player Classic - Homecinema: Basically, think of the old 6.4 version of WMP, you know, the last version before they put a bunch of bullshit into all their media players. Then, put in a fuckton of updates and the ability to play almost anything, including Quicktime and Real Player using Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative.

In a nutshell, its a fast, minimal player with a ton of options behind it.

VLC: I don't use VLC as much when playing avis, mpegs, and the like, but their DVD playback can't be beat. There's a lot of options in it to handle on-the-fly video modification that I like, but it's not quite as streamlined as MPC.

Ya, i mainly use VLC at home also. But with WMP 11 they had made it fairly simple to share your library over the network to a device for streaming. It was about the only thing i was using it for, then WMP12 broke that functionality it seems. Or at least made it a lot harder to figure out and set up.

now the complaint with 7 is the shitty beta sound drivers from creative fucking up functionality. I really don't get how hard it is for some fucking nerds to figure this shit out so its not a headache for me.

Creative never disappoints. I'm sure they're already working on the next batch of shitty drivers in anticipation of Windows 8. They have always led the audio card industry in their forward-thinking attitude.

Anyone looking to pick this up this week? Running the RC on the wife's PC and I gotta say I'm impressed. I'll be getting the full version for her but I think I'll wait for a bit longer before I jump from Vista.

My next install will probably W7 and I may even buy it!!

Don't mind paying for a quality product. One weird thing though is that Amazon it is £65 for the upgrade from Vista/XP and £120 for the full install. Other places just have it as £65. Are they just selling the upgrade and failing to mention it or are Amazon just overpriced?

Everything I've seen about W7 pricing indicates the lower price is always for an upgrade and not the full retail product.

Always lower price for an upgrade. I always get the full OEM. Usually cheaper than the upgrade. Most places will ship it to you if you buy it online.

hmm looking over the main differences between Ultimate and Pro and it looks like its languages and bitlocker...Ultimate worth the $70 more? The RC was Ultimate but I haven't messed around that much with it because it's in Japanese.

I did Ultimate in Vista but it was only $10-$20 more.

I'm not even going with Professional, I'm sticking with Home Premium. The only thing that I would want with Pro is the XP Mode, and I can do that with a dual-boot machine.

My aunt said they haven't gotten it at the college store yet, so I'm still waiting to see what I can get my hands on.

I'm using my copy of XP on another box...well hopefully. Either the HD or MB seems to be pooched on that thing at the moment. Windows 7 should come today...if they deliver on Sat. I went with pro cause of the xp like you said.

I have a free (student) English version of XP Pro. I wonder if I'm eligible for an update French version of W7 Home Premium? Surely not... dang, 199€. Oh well. It is worth it this time.
Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription.. is more cowbell!
