No he's not doing that at all. Like I say, I was just idly wondering what other people thought. Hence it's position in this topic. If he'd been pecking my head over it I'd have put it in the I need to be drunk topic.

I think you're well justified in your position.

Can I have a lift to the tram?

One of the nice things about living in our new home is that we are right along the flight path for the planes returning from the toronto airshow to hamilton airport. In the span of 10 minutes saw the old Lancaster fly over, then a couple of raptors and then one of the most kick ass things I've ever seen a Sabre flying in formation with a couple Blue Angels (Sabre was loud!). Real treat while I was BBQ'ing in the back yard and drinking beer.

That Lancaster was a noisy bitch too...can only imagine what a 1000 of the buggers flying over Europe must have been like.

My new gaff is about a mile and a half from an Air Force reserve base. I get to listen to C-5A cargo planes circling overhead as they approach the runway. I've largely gotten used to it, but Kenny noticed the noise as soon as he got here.

The C-5 is NOT a small plane!

Airbase that I was supposed to be stationed at was a C-5 base. I actually managed to get so close to the thing I could smell the hydraulic fluid.

At Lackland AFB, we had C-5's going over us CONSTANTLY, at ALL hours of the night. I think they intentionally directed them over the Basic Training dormitories, because those fuckers would be no more than 500 feet over our heads, shaking the hell out of the buildings, windows, bunks, lockers, and anything else that could vibrate at 2 in the morning.

In college, I dated a girl who lived in Queens. She lived about eight blocks from LaGuardia. I didn't sleep much when I went to visit. I kept thinking the planes were gonna hit her apartment block.

Why is it that eveyone in the 'States lives near an airbase? You got so much fookin' room and yet all your houses are built on the ends of runways. Over here you don't see a plane unless you go to Biggin Hill or John O'Groats. I reckon we probably don't actually have an airforce.

I live almost directly under a helo flight path, i think it follows the shore line (never far from water here).
We've had the Red Arrows three times in the past two months.

Its navy town, so helos come and go, and when Ark Royal gets recommissioned there are all kinds of red jets waking my ass up.
Then the Queen goes and has another birthday and there is cannon fire waking my ass up, why doesnt Churchill celebrate his death in the afternoon ffs?!
Fucking ferries have to sound a warning at 5am, THEN, FUCKING THEN, we have the shitehawk dawn chorus!!!

Richard Madely was reading the paper outside my gaff today, i shit you not.
He was with some caravan exhibiting shit.
I considered saying 'alright you cunt', but just headed past to my physio appointment.

But yeah, i live in the epicenter of the Navy, you dont get this shit in Nottingham, so why do yank fags have to try and dodge all that hardware thats doing the world so much good?

My mate in Bath see's quite a lot of flying military hardware. Some military base not far away.

I saw the Red Arrows the other day (fuckin cool - They just cruised past at low altitude and in formation) but apart from that I don't see much.

Oh, and I didn't even mention the F-15s from Barnes ANG base. They don't fly over quite as much, but when they do you know it. I liked the A-10s they used to have there, but those got retired.

This base I live next to, Westover, is a secondary runway for the space shuttle.

One thing I always remember as a kid, when we went to Myrtle Beach, was all the A-10's taking off from the airbase that had a flightpath right over Myrtle Beach State Park. Sometimes one of them would make a low, slow pass over the beaches, wagging its wings at all the tourists. Pretty damn cool at 8 years old.

BRAC closed down that base back in the early 90's though, turned it into Myrtle Beach Airport. Never had much of a desire to fly down there when you can drive from WV for half the price.
