Why the fuck would I want to watch 4-6 hours of TV that's not enjoyable to get to the stuff that might be? That just makes no sense to me. Grab me with the first episode, or fuck off.

I dunno, maybe I'll give the second ep of Dexter a try. I just hate it when I can already tell where the story is going. Dexter indicates who his first victim is going to be, and right away you can tell he's gonna get it cos he was a kiddie diddler. I'm not claiming to be some kind of genius who can spot this shit, but in most of the shows I've tried to watch, the predictability just kind of ruins it.

24 is the worst for that. The writers for that show hop from one cheap plot device to another like frogs on lily pads.

^^^Obviously still hasn't seen Breaking Bad. Truly a show like no other. Not sure how many times I've told you how great it is, but I'll say it again. Check it out already. Only two seasons to catch up on so not a monumental time commitment. Bryan Cranston is amazing.

If I want to see a bunch of meth heads, I'll just drive over to Bremen, GA.

I watched 3 or 4 of Breaking Bad and it was okay. Didn't really get into it though.

The Wire is about the best thing I've seen recently. That and the new Battlestar Galactica which is spectacularly badass in parts.

Dexter's definitely worth a second shot. It's been brilliant through all 3 series so far. I think the 3rd may be the strongest.

From what I've seen of Galactica, it seems like a poorly-written, poorly acted, overcomplicated and technically weak show. Maybe Slade can put in a good word for it, but for me that show has a long way up to the praise that some of the critics are showering it with.

So I've seen the first two seasons of Lost on DVD. To speak about the show itself: the plot is muddled and the general religious background setting is just stupid. Furthermore, they poured a lot of paranormal and mystical elements into the pot and that messed it up even more: it just doesn't work for me. The show is pretty poor in terms of survival realism, I don't even think that the writers have bothered to read about Robinson Crusoe.

For a mainstream TV show, though, the character development is quite good, although some of those flashbacks are dumb. I like the idea of that, the acting, and the interpersonal development - although again, the mentality of the people and the way they react to the crash and to each other just doesn't seem convincing.

The Sawyer part is plain genius, it works perfectly and has kept me laughing every time he had screen time. His relationship with Kate is hilarious  they mix really well. Alone for that, I am considering getting the third season.

I can't sit through an episode of Lost. It just bores me.

The new Galactica I didn't like either. Of course, the original was pretty ridiculous as well and I found myself unable to watch it in reruns when I was older.

The new Galactica was badass. I couldn't stand the old one. The new one got boring for a while with all the religious shite but the actual battle scenes were cool as all fuck. Nothing like watching 2 Battlestars going at it with half a dozen Cylon base ships. Or seeing Galactica jumping into a planets atmosphere and while plummeting towards the ground with all guns blazing disgorging all it's Vipers before jumping away again seconds before hitting the ground. Badass.

Lost was interesting for a while but is boring me shitless now.

Dexter Season 3 is really hotting up. Getting good now.

Tell me this, does Dexter ever stop prattling on about being empty inside? If so, I might give ep 2 a go. When he looked down at the empty donut box in the first episode and said "empty inside...just like me" I almost threw the remote at the TV. We get the fucking point, you're an emotionless, soulless psychopath! Get on with the killing!! And lines like "if I could feel, I'd have feelings for her" just had me groaning and wishing the scriptwriters would get herpes.

Do people really need it laid on that thick to get the point?

Yes.

I'd at least give Ep's 2 and 3 a go. If you're not into it by then then forget it.

The little dismembered doll body is his freezer right at the end did have me intrigued enough to want to continue.

If you think you can endure these episodes and get through Season 1 (and it does get a bit less intense on the character ananlysis) then you'll fuckin love the villains in seasons 2 and 3.

I love Deborah's character. Never have I seen such a foul mouthed woman in a leading "goody" role. Masuka and Angel are funny too.

In the books the Dexter character is a lot colder and less well adjusted. Probably more realistic. However Deborah is a 1 dimensional bitch in the books. Shitty character.

Mind you, the villian in the 2nd book is so horrible they could never have made it into a series. Too gruesome.
