Wolfenstein gets pulled in Germany

Postby Pr1ck on Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:13 pm

Well I gotta laugh at this cuz the project was such a frickin disaster. This is just icing on the cake, Smooth move letting a swastika slip by Activision and Raven.

http://kotaku.com/5365155/swastika-gets ... an-shelves

Also this was quite humorous too-

"Prior to the release of Wolfenstein, Raven Software designer Manveer Heir promised a full refund to anyone who bought the game if it outsold this year's Madden. It did not. It didn't come close, actually, according to NPD Group estimates.

According to a report from GameSpot, the Activision game sold just 106,000 copies across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Madden sold 1.9 million."

Ouch it only sold 106k copies. I know Manveer he's actually a hilarious dude ( has no "off" or censorship filter) and he knew the game had no chance in beating Madden but it made for some interesting PR.

I followed that link and found myself at a place where it compared the EU and German versions. German games aren't allowed to have blood in them?

Yeah we don't want to overstimulate them.

We get a lot of german hauliers phoning to book in so I like to mess with them. As soon as I detect the German accent I get all enthusiastic "HELLOOOOOOO!!". The last guy just said "Oh" and then carried on in his robotic voice.

A bit like the Vulcans the Germans.

 We got one at work. Older, always looks ready to fall apart, and always shaking. The other day he was explaining to me how different it was to play the sitar than the guitar, and he really looked like an odd shaky robot in an 80s music video. It was really hard to keep a straight face...

How can I leave such threads just pass by on this forum? Ima friggin' admin!

IRT topic:
Blood is not allowed in German games. Its textures have to be replaced with tits. Swastikas are replaced by crooked Frenchmen penis illustrations.

I don't understand the blood thing. If the point is to not desensitize people to violence, how does sanitizing games help? I think Germany goes a bit far with their censorship.

That would require a lot of photoshopping. Probably more than is possible. :prt: Our penises are by definition perfectly straight when erect. How do you think we got the standard meter right? It was modeled from our own penises!

Actually the meter is derived from the speed of light.
