And does anyone know the probability of making a flush if you're dealt 2 cards of the same suit? I've been calling pre-flop raises when I have 2 cards of the same suit (assuming it's not like a 2 and a 4 or some shit) thinking I'm always in with a shout of a flush but I'm beginning to think that might be folly. For example if I'da got the 4 and jack of clubs like wot Mud got there I'd have had a go with that. At least tried to see the flop.

First, there's a big difference between just two suited cards, or a suited Ace. You really don't want to get a Jack high flush with your cards with two other players in the showdown. And even if you have a suited Ace, you don't want to call pre-flop raises at all costs. The odds of getting at least a four-flush (that means two cards of your suit) on the flop aren't in your favour most times. Don't pay too high a price for getting your flush and then being hammered by a Full House :cheers:

It's fun to take money off of guys who play anything suited and chase flushes through really expensive bets. If you are that guy, please open a money account on ultimatebet.

Oh, and mucking is when you choose to throw your cards in the discarded pile (muck) rather than turning them up when you've lost.

Yeah I think I've been putting far too much faith into flushes. Just looking at the odds now and it's not actually that much harder to get a full house. There's a massive leap between a straight and a flush, then a little step to a full house and then a maHOOSIVE leap to 4 of a kind.

So what do you guys do when someone does a big raise pre-flop and you're holding something like Ace/King unsuited (assuming you don't believe the guy is bluffing)? Thus far I've been folding what is a pretty good hand cos I don't fancy my chances of pairing one of them off.

IRT Dick: Oh it's not like I start calling massive raises or going all in or anything. But I do have a tendency to call small/medium raises so's I can at least see the flop. If I don't get any help there I bail.

Another queston - I've read that there is some value in showing your cards when you force everyone else to fold. I'm guessing it's just to mess with their heads a bit - Maybe throw them off track. You guys ever do that and is there a facility to do that on these online games?

What I do with AK depends on my position and the read I have on the other players at the table. In late position, I'm calling anything up to 3x the BB. Calling beyond that depends on whether or not I think the guy is full of shit. Big bets from early position are reason to give you pause unless you have a read on the guy. I like to see a flop with AK. 3xBB bets aren't all that unusual for a hand featuring off-premium pocket pairs like 10s or JJ. If there's no paint on the flop and he makes a continuation bet, I'm probably backing out. Obviously, with AK suited, you have more options open to you, and I might call a beefier preflop raise.

As for showing my cards, I don't like to unless I have to. I don't like to volunteer free information to people who will use it for profit, if you know what I mean. I have auto muck turned off on uB, so I get the option to show or muck after a showdown.

Paint = face cards

A continuation bet is when you lead out with a big bet and then follow that up with a big bet the next round. You can use a continuation bet as a semi-bluff at times. Lets say you have AKh in early position and you make a 3xBB bet. You get one caller behind you. The flop comes up 7 2 5 with no hearts. You've totally missed the flop. Occasionally, at this point I like to represent that the flop doesn't fucking matter, I still have the nuts (even though I've whiffed). I make a continuation bet as large or larger than my preflop bet. This represents that I'm holding a hefty pocket pair or have caught a set (3 of a kind) with a pair in my pocket and one on the board. Unless the caller behind you really is holding a hefty pair, he's gonna fold. Most people are not gonna call that with a draw. if he calls the bet, you know you're fuckered, but you got the information without hanging yourself.

Basically, a continuation bet means your cards were strong before the next street turned, and they still are regardless of what cards have shown.

In real money games.... I NEVER EVER show my cards.... except when I physically need to rub them in my most hated river-hitting opponent cocksucker villain's eyes.
There's nothing to win by it. Even if you bluffed a few guys off their semi-good hands with complete crap you show them that you're the kind of player that's trying to pull off such things.

The more information they get about you, the worse it gets.
